Some quick tips to help you help hedgehogs.

- A hedgehog out during daylight hours is more than likely to need help of some kind. PLEASE PUT IN A SUITABLE BOX/CARRIER BEFORE YOU CALL FOR HELP.....THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE.

- Dog and cat food are welcomed by prickly visitors to your garden.

- Water is a more than adequate drink, milk is bad for them, it causes upset stomachs.

- Any netting (fruit for example) should be raised off the ground so the spines don't get caught, trapping the hedgehog.

- Gaps in fences are good, hedgehogs like to roam between gardens. (unless you specifically want a totally enclosed garden, which could be suitable to use as a site for a disabled hedgehog, though there are other factors to consider.)

- If you know you have nightly visits, it would be good to leave a bit of your garden more 'wild' than the rest, you might get a nest!

- If you are going to have a bonfire, check underneath by lifting with a garden fork before lighting. An unlit bonfire is a perfect hide away!
